Author Visits

Author visits are a fantastic way to connect students to writing and reading. Generally, visits fall into two categories: grade-level assemblies or small group writing workshops. Either way, I find they are the most fun when interactive. My goal with author visits is to get kids involved hands-on in the creative process by practicing storytelling and imagination. Sometimes that means brainstorming story ideas and pitching them to the class, or writing a piece of flash fiction together, or exploring one of many other fun writing prompts. And, sometimes, if a read-aloud and book talk is preferred, I can simply do that too! Also, as a lifelong dyslexic, I always enjoy speaking about how not to let one's learning challenges hinder the joy of reading, writing, and story-making.

Possible presentations and workshops

  • Class Assemblies: Being a Writer & My Experience with Dyslexia

  • Read Alouds and Book Talks

  • Crafting Your Story: Writing Workshop (5th-8th grade)

  • Think it! Pitch it!

  • The Power of Story

Virtual Author Talks (FREE)

I am always happy to provide a free 30-minute Zoom visit with groups that have read my books. Just email me to suggest a date & time!

In-Person Author Talks

There's nothing better than being in the same room together—the excitement, the energy—visits are the most fun and engaging. Generally, it is easy for me to travel in New England (and even easier in the Boston area), but I am happy to journey far and wide if travel accommodations can be allotted.

Book Ordering

When kids learn about books, chances are they want to read them! Make your author visits even better by making books available to your student. I use Author Visit Central and other local indie bookstores (even yours!) to help provide simple ordering and shipping to the visit location.
